Some Plone Banner Ads and a Button

by Christian Scholz on February 12, 2008

Plone Banner

I was bored a bit this evening, so I created two banners and a button for Plone. So here they are:

Plone Banner

Plone Button

Feel free to use them!

Thanks, I will put them in there (not sure when I will have time though, hopefully this evening) and will post them here again.

Postive marketing slogans work better IMHO. Some people may already be using website solutions that work good for their existing use cases and are just interested in Plone for only some website needs or just evaluating it to see if it can do a better job. Negative slogans make people feel defensive as it can be implied that "non-Plone" is a poor choice.

Positive slogans might be, "Get excited when you think about your website" or "Collaboratively manage your web site content with confidence".

kevin, and some people are using solutions that work bad for them. your logic isn't very convincing

Well, this was more aimed at people who do not know what to use yet or maybe simply users of bad systems.
But I was also planning on making some more positive ones anyway. So thanks for your suggestions :)

I am also not sure if people really will get defensive or simply ignore it then. Should I use SuperCMS 2000 and it works great for me I won't get nervous and I won't look at Plone. OTOH if I get a positive message I might feel more curious and check it out. Anyway, positive ones are coming, too.

I also wanted to make a "I am a fan of Plone" button (for blogs or so)

(It was more spontaneous anyway)

Hmmm. How can I easily add a banner system onto a Plone site that uses these banners (emphasis on the easy aspect)?

Well, unfortunately we need to work on providing more portlets which do such things out of the box, e.g. some HTML portlet. (talking about Plone 3.0+ here btw).

Because portlets are only on the sides you need to do something different for the leaderboard banner though. You can use the customerize method (which definitely needs a new and better interface).

To do this, login and go to

/plone/portal_view_customizations/

(/plone is my portal root).

Then you should find the logo part on the list.
It's for me at

/plone/portal_view_customizations/zope.interface.interface-plone.logo

This actually is the code responsible for the logo. It can be changed there and you can put the banner in.

You might also look for header sections etc. for other places.

As for complete banner systems I don't know any. You probably can hook up OpenAds with Plone but I am not sure if there's a component ready for it.

It's definitely something we should provide in the future.

As for the portlet story I hope that with the next release we also have static HTML portlet.

As I heard 3.1 probably will have a TAL portlet in which you can also paste the image code (or if you have a banner ad system such as openads installed you can use the JavaScript code).

To add new portlet managers for the bottom or footer you might find this link helpful:
