TopfCast (english) - Episode 01 - about Data Portability, the Snow Sprint and the Plone Development Process

TopfCast (english)

Finally I managed to finish the first episode of my english speaking podcast “TopfCast”. I wanted to do this during the Snow Sprint but wasn’t really having a voice anymore and instead doing a lot of coughing. As it’s better now here the result is, including some recordings from the Snow Sprint.

    nice speaking cast …

what is current status of plone.app.commenting, as far as i see on plone.org is still in discussion. well i already check the code in svn.plone.org… dont have time to check it right now will check it in next week, but would like to help if there is any todo list what need to be done?

will plone.app.commenting be merged into plone3.1?

The main odeo link gives me a “this is private, bugger off!” message. I cannot download the main itunes-enabled mp3. Is there some setting that’s wrong? I wouldn’t mind subscribing to this in itunes :-)

Second comment: what’s your general opinion about odeo? Viability, longetivity, etc. I’ll probably have to store some sermon MP3s for my church somewhere, so that’s why I’m asking :-)

  4. Christian Scholz Says:

@Reinout: On my side probably some setting is wrong as I did not place the track inside a podcast on odeo. I actually just wanted the player ;-)

I will setup an itunes feed later today and post all the links (need to organize english/german anyway). I will also put it on the iTunes Store.

As for odeo I only use the player. I host the file myself. So actually I don’t really need odeo it just was the easiest now. Unfortunately the situation for podcast hosting seems to be somewhat different from video hosting. With video you have a plethora of sites where you have lots of tools and free hosting with podcasting I haven’t found anything similar. Yesterday I looked at podhost.de which gives you I think 100 MB upload/month for EUR 3,-/month and unlimited traffic. So this might be an option (smaller/bigger plans are available as well). But no idea about the service, if they give you a player, iTunes feed etc.
For the iTunes feed I usually use FeedBurner.com. I wanted to use podpress once (WP plugin) but the usability was awful IMHO ;-)

As for the player I will probably look out for a separate player soon or use the Wordpress plugin which provides me with one.

Nevertheless I will look into the odeo thing now.

  5. Christian Scholz Says:

I just saw that odeo had problems connecting to it’s server so I am using the audio player plugin now. Should maybe have done it directly ;-)

@garbas we finished a somewhat working prototype at the Snow Sprint but it’s far from finished and thus will not be in 3.1. I will post soon about what’s there and what is needed to get it into a usable state. Unfortunately thinking about how commenting might work right also seems to mean thinking about a lot of other stuff because it touches so many areas.

I hope to check in my latest version at the weekend and will post about it then.
