Yes, i mean, if you'd got your own server what would be possible scenarios to do with it? The prospect of having your own server must not only be to save money and to have more security by keeping your information on your own hardware.

If it's for the sake of moderation I can do this as well on a rented LL server as on my own server.

When I studied in England I had to write a homework about collaboration opportunities in SL. I put it online here: http://johannesluderschmidt.de/make-ends-meet-col...

Based on that I could imagine an OpenSim collaboration server that features all kinds of necessary software for collaboration purposes (streaming servers for streaming presentations and so on) and that provides enough resources for a lot of people.

What do you think one could do with your own OpenSim? Just 'owning' it?

@johannes: That might be true but as Jean Linden once pointed out: With 1000 people on a sim many people will say "Hi".

So maybe it should come with moderation controls.

cool, can't wait to see if this will REALLY work. would be so nice to have the possibility for servers with your own apps. however, i don't know how far your own server apps can be supported by the standard sl client.

maybe with your own server you can support more people on your sim than with the virtual sim servers from linden labs…
