On a somewhat short notice I want to announce that I am hosting a DataPortability Project meetup today in Second Life. It’s thought as a spontaneous gettogether of people from the DataPortability realm. It is open to everyone.
Here are the details:
Where: Sim „Stadt“ (SLURL)
When: Sunday, April 13th, 11am SLT
What is the DataPortability Project
The DataPortability Project’s aim is (as the name implies) to make data on the net more portable. This is mainly aimed toward social networking sites where these days each of them is a data silo which is happy to import all sort of data (profile, friends, photos, …) but very unlikely to make it available again.
One use case we want to solve is e.g. to let you import profile and friend relationships from any social network when registering for a new one. In general though the aim to make data more portable is more general and applies to all sorts of data.
If you want to find out more about it, come over to the meetup and ask your questions!
