The future of web services

I just joined a bunch of new sites (mento, brightkite and something I already forgot again) and now of course I have to visit them all regularly to post my updates there. Of course all those sites usually offer some sort of plugin or external tool to help with that or hook up with other services automatically (usually that’s at least twitter). Otherwise the chance is big that you forget about them again and won’t come back (after all there are quite a few of them).

So if you think this into the extreme then in the end you might only have one big dashboard which connects to all those APIs, filters, aggregates, remixes and posts data from one set of services to another. If that’s the case do those services then actually still need some sort of a web presence with design and all that of their own? Or will they simply be data providers and processors only usable via some API?
