Plone Conference 2008 to happen October 8-10 in Washington, DC

It is decided: The Plone Conference this year will be held in Washington, DC from October 8-10. It will be preceded by two days of Plone training and followed by a 2-3 day Plone sprint.

The event is organized by The Zope and Python User Group of D.C. and will take place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The registration fee will be within the range of US$ 350 to US$ 500.

The vote for Washington was quite close (there was also an offer for Prague) with 34 votes against Prague’s 31 votes.

As a results of the discussion around the voting process the selection process for the Plone Conference 2009 will begin far earlier and the initial call for proposal can be expected this summer. The main reason for doing this is the small amount of time for making a proposal (because of that there only have been two) and for voting (there have been many open questions which people wanted to get answered).

Moreover the Plone Foundation would like to see a Plone Symposium happening in Europe (which is smaller in scale, 80-150 people) like it happened 4 times now in the US.

I would like to add that a Plone Camp might be a good idea. This would be more like a Barcamp and thus unconference like. I would also like to see parts of a conference being like this as it seems to be more modern.
